A new tour for Tudur Owen’s comedy drama Huw Fyw following popular demand

THIS IS the true story (well, true-ish) of Huw – or Huw Fyw as everyone calls him, since the other Huw in the village died in the Second World War.

Huw Fyw doesn’t believe in fate. And he doesn’t believe in smiling either or waste or anything that requires him to get up from his armchair. But after a stroke of luck, Huw embarks on an adventure from his little village to central London; an adventure that will change the course of his life forever and help him learn to live for today, without forgetting the past.

Marking 80 years since the end of the Second World War, this new play from comedian Tudur Owen explores hope, laziness and how to make 4 cuppas from just one teabag! In his first ever stage play, Tudur will also star as Huw Fyw, alongside Owen Alun, Dafydd Emyr and Lois Meleri Jones, directed by Steffan Donnelly.

The production is supported by Galeri Caernarfon.

Tudur Owen is looking forward to having the opportunity to return to his first stage play.

Tudur said: “The experience of performing Huw Fyw with Theatr Cymru was one of the highlights of my life, and I’m so happy that I want to do it again – I really couldn’t wait!

“The response of audiences in all parts of Wales was really amazing, so the hope is that this production will reach even more people as we venture on tour once again.

“If I get half the thrill I experienced during the last tour, this will be another production to treasure forever.”

This new tour will bring this production to new audiences and Steffan Donnelly – Artistic Director of Theatr Cymru – is delighted to be bringing this memorable production back in 2026.

Steffan said: “Huw Fyw was a huge success for Theatr Cymru in terms of response and sales and I can’t wait to take it back out on tour.

“The production resonated deeply with audiences all over Wales the first time and it is a special privilege to tour it again to Welsh theaters and welcome audiences back to Huw’s gentle story, as well as reach new audiences.

“Working with Tudur again has been a real pleasure – his voice, his generosity and his instinct for a good story livens up the creative process and I’m looking forward to being back in the rehearsal room with him (and the rest of the cast, which will be announced soon) in the new year.”

Closed captions in Welsh and English will be available at all performances through Sibrwd, Theatr Cymru’s language access app. Audio description through the medium of Welsh will be available at all performances in Galeri, Caernarfon, Theatr y Sherman, Cardiff, and Pontio, Bangor – and touch tours will also be available before those shows, in order to give blind and visually impaired attendees the opportunity to explore the set, props and costumes. There will be a performance interpreted through British Sign Language (BSL) with Cathryn McShane at the Ballroom in Cardiff on April 17 and Pontio, Bangor, on May 2.
