Jolene Saunders raises £1,600 after taking on the demanding fitness challenge, with donations supporting Glangwili Hospital’s Chemotherapy Day Unit and Macmillan Cancer Support.
A MOTHER of two from Alltwalis has raised £800 for the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Glangwili Hospital after completing a gruelling Hyrox fitness race to thank the team who cared for her.
Jolene Saunders took on the challenge at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on April 30, raising a total of £1,600, with £800 donated to the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Glangwili Hospital and a further £800 for Macmillan.
Hyrox is a fitness racing event that combines eight one-kilometre runs with eight functional workout stations, including rowing, sled pushes and wall balls.
Jolene said she wanted to give something back after receiving treatment at the unit.
“After receiving amazing care at the chemo unit, I wanted to give something back. I raised £800 for the unit and £800 for Macmillan,” she said.
Jessica Michael, Senior Sister at the Chemotherapy Day Unit, thanked Jolene for her fundraising efforts.
“On behalf of the staff and patients at the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Glangwili Hospital, I would like to thank Jolene for taking on this challenge, resulting in a very generous donation of £800.
“We are always looking at ways to improve the environment and improve the way we care for patients within the Chemotherapy Day Unit. Please be assured that this money will go towards these improvements. Thank you!”
Claire Rumble, Fundraising Officer for Hywel Dda Health Charities, said: “It’s great to see our fundraisers using popular sporting events like Hyrox to fundraise for their local NHS charity. Thank you so much, Jolene, we are so grateful for your support.
“The generous charitable donations we receive don’t replace NHS funding. Instead, they are used to provide items and activities above and beyond core NHS expenditure, such as creating more welcoming surroundings for patients, families and staff, and providing the latest equipment.”
