LAST SATURDAY, September 13, Firefighter Rhys Fitzgerald from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) led a team of six firefighters in taking on the challenge of climbing Ben Nevis.
Rhys, together with five of his fire service colleagues, completed the climb in full firefighting kit – an incredible demonstration of strength, resilience, and solidarity. Their effort was dedicated to honouring the memory of firefighters who have given their lives in service, while also raising vital funds for The Fire Fighters Charity.
Thanks to their determination, the team raised just under £1,000 in support of the charity.

The climbers represented two services:
- Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service: Rhys Fitzgerald, Ben Uprichard, Chris Doyle, and Craig Thomas
- Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service: Bob Cross and Thomas Cross
The team received warm support from Fort William Fire Station, who kindly provided a place to rest and recover following the climb.
MAWWFRS would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Fort William Fire Station for their generosity, to their Oxfordshire colleagues for joining the challenge, and to The Fire Fighters Charity-not only for supporting this event but also for the invaluable assistance they continue to provide to firefighters and their families across the UK.
