PLANS to convert a Haverfordwest home to a beauty salon, relocating an existing town business, have been given the go-ahead.

In an application to Pembrokeshire County Council, Yvette Carless, of 159 Back Lane, Prendergast sought permission for the change of use of the building.

An officer report, recommending approval said: “This full planning application seeks retrospective planning permission for the change of use of the dwelling to a beauty salon.”

It added: “The business previously rented premises which were located in St Thomas Green in Haverfordwest and St Issells Avenue in Merlins Bridge before purchasing the premises at the application site to relocate the business to Prendergast.  Therefore, retaining a permanent presence within Haverfordwest and continuing to serve their current customers and the local community.  The area of Prendergast offers good links to the town centre and out of town retail areas and with suitable active travel and sustainable travel links.”

It added: “In terms of residential amenity, the application site is in an area mixed with residential and commercial development.  The plans indicate for a beauty salon, with the proposed floor plan which indicates that there would be one main treatment room and a further treatment room with storage.  There would be one full time and two part time employees.”

It finished: “The hours of operation would be 9am-9pm Monday – Saturday with Sundays and bank holidays 11.30-4.30. Public Protection have reviewed the application and comments that the application site is within a mix of commercial and residential properties and makes no adverse comments or suggested conditions on the proposal.

“In light of this and the nature of the proposal it is not considered that the proposal would have any adverse impact on neighbouring residential amenity.”

The application was conditionally approved.
