Family of missing 52-year-old informed following discovery
POLICE have confirmed that a man’s body has been discovered on a beach on the Gower Peninsula following a search operation over the weekend.
Officers from South Wales Police said the body was found on Rhossili Beach on the morning of Sunday, March 8.
While formal identification has not yet taken place, the family of missing man Matthew Whale, aged 52, has been informed.
Mr Whale, from Killay, had previously been reported missing after his car was discovered at Rhossili on Saturday, March 7.
A search operation was launched in the area involving emergency services, including HM Coastguard, with helicopters seen circling the coastline during the afternoon.
Earlier, police had issued a public appeal for help in locating Mr Whale after concerns were raised for his welfare.
In a statement, South Wales Police said: “A body of a man has been found on Rhossili Beach, Swansea.
“While formal identification has not yet taken place, the family of missing man Matthew Whale has been informed.”
Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the discovery are ongoing.
