Benjamin Pugh remanded in custody after denying four charges involving alleged attacks in Llanelli
A BURRY PORT man has been remanded in custody and sent to Swansea Crown Court for trial after appearing before magistrates accused of a series of assaults against a woman.
Benjamin Pugh, 29, of Dolau Fan Road, Burry Port, appeared at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (Apr 1) for a first hearing.
The court heard that Pugh faces four charges: two counts of intentional strangulation, one charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and one charge of assault by beating.
The allegations relate to two separate incidents said to have taken place in Llanelli on February 21 and March 30.
Pugh entered not guilty pleas to all charges.
Magistrates declined jurisdiction due to the seriousness of the allegations and sent the case to Swansea Crown Court for trial under Section 51(3) of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998.
He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Swansea Crown Court on Friday, May 1, for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
A reporting restriction was also imposed under Section 45 of the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999.
