Prehistoric surprise brings joy to Swansea care home residents

Residents at a care home in Llansamlet were recently transported back in time, and onto the dance-floor, thanks to a surprise visit from a life-like dinosaur.

Peniel Green Care Home, run by HC-One Wales, welcomed Bramble, a remote-controlled dinosaur well known for his television appearances, for a lively afternoon designed to lift spirits and spark conversation among residents.

As Bramble roamed the lounge, residents were encouraged to interact with the animated visitor, laughing as he danced, stopped for photographs and engaged warmly with those gathered. The unusual visit quickly became a talking point across the home, creating a relaxed and joyful atmosphere and prompting residents to reminisce and socialise.

Care staff said the experience proved particularly valuable in encouraging engagement and shared enjoyment, with residents responding positively to the sensory and interactive nature of the visit.

Home Manager Martin Morgan said the event highlighted the importance of creative activities in care settings.

“Seeing residents laugh, join in and really connect with something unexpected was incredibly rewarding. Experiences like this can make a real difference to mood and wellbeing, and we’re always keen to introduce activities that bring people together and create lasting memories.”

Peniel Green Care Home offers residential and nursing care to older people in the Swansea area and regularly hosts activities aimed at promoting wellbeing and social connection.

HC-One Wales operates 14 care homes across the country, providing residential, nursing and dementia care. The organisation places a strong emphasis on kindness-led care and on creating meaningful moments that support people to live well every day.
