POWYS County Councilhas been recognised as a Disability Confident Leader, demonstrating its commitment to creating an inclusive workplace where disabled people can thrive.
The council has been awarded level three status, the highest level within the UK Government’s Disability Confident scheme, recognising the organisations proactive and sustained approach to inclusion.
It has a range of initiatives, policies and practical support in place to ensure fair recruitment practices, accessible working environments, and provides ongoing support so all staff can develop their skills and progress professionally.
Powys County Council Leader, Cllr Jake Berriman and Deputy Leader, Cllr Dorrance, have jointly said: “This recognition is about our people. We want Powys County Council to be a place where everyone feels they belong and can thrive.
“Inclusion, fairness and reasonable adjustments is a core part of how we work. Achieving Disability Confident Leader status not only shows the progress we’re making, but our committed to continuing to improve.”
The council hopes to encourage other organisations to improve their own approach to disability inclusion.
