FIRE crews have urged members of the public to be vigilant when charging their phones after a Trimsaran resident had a lucky escape last week.
On Wednesday (Oct 4) fire crews from Llanelli and Kidwelly attended an incident in Llys y Godian, after a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge exploded in the hand of the owner.
Commenting on social media, a spokesperson for Llanelli Fire Station said: “Please be vigilant with overheating when charging your mobile phones and tablets. Thankfully the person was not badly harmed on this occasion but the outcome could have been a lot different!”
A Mid and West Wales Fire Service spokeswoman said: “A Llanelli crew attended a property at Llys y Godian in Trimsaran.
“A mobile phone exploded in someone’s hand and caused a fire to the carpet.

“Crews went in and ventilated the property.”
A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed that a paramedic was sent to the incident and treated one patient at the scene, but fortunately they did not require hospital treatment.
