Homes evacuated after Police discover large cache of illegal weapons in Abergwynfi

RESIDENTS have been evacuated and a police cordon remains in place in Abergwynfi, Neath Port Talbot, after officers discovered a significant number of illegal weapons at a property on Commercial Street.

Emergency services, including a bomb disposal unit, are currently at the scene, and the public has been urged to avoid the area while searches continue.

A 51-year-old man from Blaengwynfi has been arrested in connection with the discovery.

A South Wales Police spokesman said: “Officers attended an address on Commercial Street, Abergwynfi, Neath Port Talbot, following a report at around 9.30pm yesterday (Sunday 15 February) of a significant number of illegal weapons being found within the property. A 51-year-old man from Blaengwynfi has been arrested.”

He added: “A scene is currently being held at the property while searches are carried out with multi-agency support. An increased policing presence will be seen in the area while the investigation is ongoing. Residents of nearby properties have been evacuated where possible as a safety precaution, with trained partnership agencies supporting this process. Please avoid the area to allow emergency services full access.”

Police have confirmed the investigation remains ongoing, and further updates are expected as searches continue.
