FOUR men have been charged in connection with the death of 22-year-old Liam Woolford in Rhydyfelin on Tuesday (Sept 23).
South Wales Police confirmed that JAKE STAPLES, aged 24, of Porth, has been charged with murder, attempted murder, wounding with intent, conspiracy to wound another and possession of a bladed article.
Ethan Ross, aged 23, of Rhydyfelin, faces charges of attempted murder, conspiracy to wound another and possession of a bladed article.
Beyshake Karunanithy, aged 22, of Tonteg, has also been charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to wound another and possession of a bladed article.
Jesse Wandera, aged 30, of Rhydyfelin, is charged with conspiracy to wound another.
All four men are due to appear at Newport Magistrates’ Court this morning, Saturday (Sept 27). The case is expected to be sent to Crown Court for further hearings.
Detective Superintendent Paul Raikes said: “Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of 22-year-old Liam Woolford at this difficult time. I would also like to thank the community of Rhydyfelin for their support during our investigation.”
Emergency services were called to the Rhydyfelin area late on Tuesday evening following reports of a serious disturbance. Despite the efforts of paramedics, Mr Woolford, aged 22, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers launched a major investigation, with a large cordon in place around the incident site as forensic teams carried out searches. A number of roads in the area remained closed for much of Wednesday as inquiries continued.
Police confirmed that several arrests were made in the hours following the incident, leading to the charges announced today.
