TWO schools in Cardiff were closed on Monday (Mar 16) after police received threats suggesting someone intended to attend the sites with weapons.
South Wales Police confirmed it is investigating the threats, which were made during a live online chat on Sunday evening (Mar 15).
According to police, the message was received at around 8:30pm and referred to potential attacks at both Llanishen High School and Eastern High School.
The information suggested an individual intended to attend the schools while in possession of weapons.
Officers said enquiries are ongoing to establish the credibility of the threat and identify where it originated.
Following discussions between South Wales Police and Cardiff Council, the decision was taken to close both schools as a precaution while the matter is investigated.
Police said the move was made with the safety of pupils, staff, and the wider school communities in mind.
A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: “At this stage, the information is being actively investigated to assess the credibility and determine the origin of the threat.
“This joint decision was not taken lightly but was made with the safety of pupils, staff, and the wider school communities in mind.”
Officers confirmed that at present there have been no reports of anyone attending either school posing a threat.
However, an increased police presence has been deployed in the area while investigations and searches continue.
The force acknowledged that the incident is likely to cause concern among parents and residents but stressed that precautionary measures were being taken while enquiries are carried out.
Police added that further updates will be provided as soon as more information becomes available.
