Drink-driving conviction recorded in absence at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court

Warrant issued after Llanelli man fails to attend court

FAILING to attend court when required, a Llanelli man has been convicted in his absence and is now the subject of an arrest warrant.

Daniel Lewis, of Llanelli, was due to appear before Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (Feb 3), but failed to attend when his case was called on.

Magistrates were told that Lewis had been charged with driving a motor vehicle while the alcohol level exceeded the prescribed limit, an offence said to have taken place on January 13, 2026. As Lewis did not attend court, the matter was dealt with in his absence.

The bench proceeded to convict Lewis of the offence, imposing a community order requiring him to comply with supervision requirements. He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs along with the statutory victim surcharge.

As a result of his failure to attend court on February 3, Lewis was also found to have failed to surrender to court bail.. Magistrates authorised a warrant for his arrest without bail.

Two further matters were also listed, relating to separate allegations of theft from a shop. Those offences were said to have occurred on October 15, 2025, and January 12, 2026. Both cases were adjourned to be heard at a later date.
