Stalking charge and child cruelty case listed

Accused remanded in custody

A DEFENDANT has appeared before Llanelli magistrates facing allegations of stalking and child cruelty.

Jonathan Treharne, 39, of Heol Yr Ysgol, Cefneithin, Llanelli, appeared before Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (Feb 11) in relation to offences alleged to have taken place in 2024 and 2026.

He is charged with stalking involving serious alarm or distress. It is alleged that between January 20 and February 9, 2026, at Llanelli, he pursued a course of conduct which included making unwanted phone calls and sending messages, as well as attending at a college, causing serious alarm or distress which had a substantial adverse effect on the complainant’s usual day-to-day activities. He entered a not guilty plea on February 11, 2026.

Treharne also faces two charges of causing or procuring the assault, ill-treatment, neglect, abandonment or exposure of a child in a manner likely to cause unnecessary suffering or injury to health. Indications of guilty pleas were entered in relation to those matters on January 23, 2026.

Bail was refused and Treharne was remanded in custody on the grounds that he was likely to offend, including causing injury or fear of injury to an associated person, and to prevent interference with witnesses or obstruction of justice. In relation to the child cruelty matters, he was remanded after conviction for the purpose of further inquiries, with bail refused on similar grounds and due to other matters allegedly committed whilst on bail.

The next hearing is listed for February 18 at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court.
