Former Ruthin farm granary set for holiday let conversion under new plans

The Graig Farm outbuilding at Pentre Coch to Graig Farm, Pentre Coch, Ruthin

A FORMER farm granary could be transformed into holiday accommodation if a planning application is granted by Denbighshire County Council.

John Pugh, the Trustee of Graig Farmland, has applied to the council’s planning department, seeking permission to build an extension to the west of his existing granary, converting the building into holiday accommodation.

The plans for the Graig Farm outbuilding at Pentre Coch to Graig Farm, Pentre Coch, Ruthin, include parking provision.

A planning statement submitted as part of the application states: “The granary is situated within the original farmyard and was used to store grain and to grind corn to feed the cows when it was a dairy farm.

“The original farmhouse had to be sold because the farmer became ill and had to move into Ruthin. The land was retained, and both cattle and sheep graze the land, and the business is still valid.”

“The character will not be adversely affected. The position of the extension will be at a lower level than the banking to the north.”

The report added: “It is intended to keep the stone track in good condition, which allows water to drain naturally and does not flood the area.”

The proposals will likely be discussed at a future planning committee meeting at Denbighshire County Council’s Ruthin County Hall HQ.
