FIRE crews were called to an incident at the old Cadbury factory in Chirk, Wrexham on Thursday morning.
North Wales Police and North Wales Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene shortly after 11am, following reports of a blaze at the Mondelēz factory, formerly Cadbury.
Station Avenue was partially blocked in both directions, from Station Road to B5070 Church Street, as crews worked to bring the fire under control, North Wales Live reports.
A spokesperson for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “We’re currently in attendance at a fire in a factory on Station Avenue, Chirk. Four crews are currently at the scene and staff have been evacuated from the building.”
North Wales Police confirmed their involvement, adding: “North Wales Police were called at 11:07am today following a call from the fire service with regards to a fire at the Cadbury factory in Chirk.”
A statement from Mondelez International, which now operates the site, said: “A safety incident occurred at our Chirk site this morning relating to a roaster. The emergency services attended and quickly brought the situation under control. All of our employees are safe, with a small number of individuals receiving medical attention on site for minor injuries. The safety and wellbeing of our employees is our primary concern. We will continue to provide our full support to the emergency services and authorities whilst they are on site and with their ongoing investigation.”
