Sam Rowlands MS calls on constituents to support a Memorial march and unveiling

SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Fflint Wrexham, has welcomed a special event to honour generations of Welsh Guardsmen in Wrexham.

Mr Rowlands, a keen supporter of the services, is urging everyone to support a major event being planned for the city on Saturday, June 28.

He said: “I am delighted to highlight such a significant event for Wrexham and urge everyone to save the date and support this fantastic occasion.

“The day will be a wonderful opportunity to show our backing for our brave men and women and quite rightly commemorate their heroic achievements.

“Wrexham has very strong connections with the armed forces and I hope we see lots of people lining the streets on the big day.”

Generations of Welsh Guardsmen, and their families, will come together on June 27, 2026 to remember fellow and attached personnel who paid the ultimate sacrifice during the Falklands war and Operation Herrick in Afghanistan.

A church service will take place on the day at 11am in St Giles Church and will be followed by a parade through the city centre to the Falklands and Afghanistan memorials at Bodhyfryd, where a wreath laying ceremony will take place.

During the event, a new memorial dedicated to those Welsh Guardsmen and attached personnel who lost their lives during Operation Herrick 10 and 16 in Afghanistan will be unveiled.

The memorial has been crafted from a single piece of Welsh slate, sourced from Blaenau Ffestiniog and bears the names of 12 members of the Welsh Guards battlegroup during those two tours.

It will stand as a permanent place of remembrance, reflection and respect for those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
