BRIDGEND County Borough Council will decide upon their proposed capital strategy later this month with just under £122m available for the 2026-27 financial year.

The funding, which will look to deliver a number of major projects across the county borough in the coming years such as new school developments, was approved by the councils cabinet at a meeting held in February of 2026.

Projects within the plan include over £100m for a number of new school developments such as those at Heronsbridge, Mynydd Cynffig, Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Ogwr and Bridgend West.

It will also see funding set aside for Porthcawl’s popular Grade II-listed Grand Pavilion re-development which is currently under way.

Elsewhere, the programme could see around  £8m allocated over the next two years for waste and recycling vehicles as the authority looks to bring its waste services back in-house, with a little over £3m for improvements to the Waterton Depot.

Additionally, the plan which is reviewed “at least annually” would see cash for annual commitments to disabled facilities grants and other housing adaptation schemes.

The proposed capital spend plan was approved by cabinet members alongside a net revenue budget of just over £408m. This comes with a planned 4.7% council tax increase for the 2026-27 financial year.

Both proposed budgets will now go for a final discussion and approval at a meeting of full council on February 25, 2026.
