Bridgend council workers tackle Storm Claudia

RESIDENTS of Bridgend County Borough are being urged to take care as Storm Claudia brings heavy winds and rainfall to South Wales.

With a yellow weather warning currently in place across much of Wales until 6am on Saturday, the Met Office has advised people to expect disruption ranging from potential flooding to road closures and traffic delays.

Workers from Bridgend County Borough Council are already tackling the storm, and are making sure that roads remain free of debris, critical culverts are clear and sandbags are ready in case they need to be deployed to local homes.

Crews will remain on duty overnight along with equipment ranging from JCBs and chainsaws to specialist gulley jets to help keep roads open and homes, people and property safe.

Councillor Paul Davies, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and the Environment, said: “As usual, our council workers will be out during the worst of the storm making sure that people are safe, roads remain clear and damage is kept to a minimum.

“While we do not currently have any flood alerts in place, we remain vigilant and are keeping a close eye on the situation. Please take care if venturing out, and check for travel updates before you set off.”
