JASON O’CONNELL MS has called for action to tackle antisocial behaviour at Aberdare Bus Station following concerns raised by residents about their safety.
Mr O’Connell has written to Rhondda Cynon Taf Council asking what measures are currently in place and whether further steps, including additional security patrols, improved CCTV and lighting, are being considered.
He has also asked whether the council is working with South Wales Police to address incidents at the station, particularly during the evening.
Mr O’Connell said: “People should be able to catch a bus without feeling intimidated or fearing for their safety.
“Aberdare Bus Station is a vital transport hub, and residents deserve to feel safe using it at any time of the day.
“I have written to Rhondda Cynon Taf Council because local people are telling me they are worried about antisocial behaviour, particularly during the evenings. Those concerns must be taken seriously.
“I am asking the council to set out what action is already being taken and whether additional measures, such as improved security, better lighting and closer working with South Wales Police, could help restore public confidence.
“Our communities deserve safe public spaces, and I will continue pressing for practical action to ensure residents can travel without fear.”
Mr O’Connell said he would consider the council’s response before deciding what further action may be needed.
