Y Pant students celebrate A-level success and university places

MEDICINE, acting, teaching and Spanish with molecular biology are some of the things students from one south Wales school will be going on to after A levels.

On Thursday, August 14, many young people at Y Pant School in Talbot Green were celebrating getting on to the courses of their choice after success in their A levels.

We went to the school to speak to some of the students who had achieved what they wanted.

Louis Wilde, 17, got 2 As and 2 As and is off to Cardiff to study dentistry.

He said he opened the wrong sheet of paper at first but said there was “relief and a lot of joy” to get into uni.

He said: “I want to help people and make a difference” adding that work experience has made dentistry appeal to him as something he wants to do as a career.

Hasaneen Alamiry, 18, said he’s “ecstatic” to be going to King’s College London to study medicine after achieving 3 As.

In studying medicine he’ll be following in the footsteps of his sister and he says that he has an interest in neurology but it’s really early to decide.

Kate Gibson has got four A*s and is off to Liverpool to study medicine.

Niamh Morgan is going to do primary education at Cardiff Met.

They said they found out that they’d got in online so they knew what results to expect.

Niamh is a cycling coach and she said that really helped in her interview while Kate plays hockey and coaches young kids rugby.

Daisy Morgan got three As and a B and wants to become an actor.

Having spent the past few years auditioning for drama schools, she said she’s not giving up.

She’s off to Bridgend College for a level four diploma acting course with actors and directors which guides people through the audition process. She said: “When you know what you want you are just going to keep going for it.”

Seren Kitaba-Davies is off to Exeter to study molecular biology and Spanish.

She said: “I wanted the best of both worlds” with Exeter offering a combined degree where she could put the two together and keep her options open.

She said she didn’t really like Spanish in the beginning but she said when she started to get good at it she thought it was really fun.

Richard Young, the assistant head teacher of Y Pant, said: “We are delighted with our year 12 and 13 results once again this year.

“It’s another year of outstanding results for our pupils and we’re extremely proud of them.

“They’ve all worked tirelessly and with dedication to achieve their goals.”
