‘Mothers and Daughters’ group continues fundraising tradition with festive performance
A LOCAL choir that first came together for what was meant to be a one-off performance nearly 14 years ago has donated £1,000 to a chemotherapy unit in west Wales.
The Mothers and Daughters choir, based in Llanelli, raised the money during its annual Christmas concert in November 2025 and donated the proceeds to the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Prince Philip Hospital.
The group originally formed for a single performance but enjoyed singing together so much that they decided to continue meeting and performing regularly.
Jacqueline Wain, one of the choir members, said the group has raised thousands of pounds for charities across Wales over the years.
“It was meant to be a ‘one night only’ event, but we loved it and continued to sing together,” she said.
“Each year we choose a charity or good cause for our Christmas concert. For 2025 we decided to raise money for the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Prince Philip Hospital as we are all, at one time in our lives, touched by cancer.
“It’s the best thing we do each year. We raised £1,000 in one evening. I expected to raise between £700 and £800, so all in all it was a rewarding night.”
The concert followed a festive theme of “Together at Christmas”, with the choir performing songs including Ring in the Season from Olaf’s Frozen Adventure and That Christmas Morning Feeling from the film Spirited.
Jacqueline’s daughter, Briony Wain, also helped entertain the audience by hosting a quiz during the evening.
Kath Watkins, senior sister at the Chemotherapy Day Unit, thanked the choir for their generosity.
“On behalf of the staff and patients at the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Prince Philip Hospital, I would like to thank Mothers and Daughters for their fundraising efforts resulting in a very generous donation of £1,000,” she said.
“We are always looking at ways to improve the environment and the way we care for patients within the unit. Please be assured that this money will go towards those improvements.”
The donation was made through Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity supporting services provided by Hywel Dda University Health Board.
The charity said community support plays a vital role in helping to provide additional services and enhancements for NHS patients, families and staff across the region.
