Retired man faces sentence for harassing calls to emergency services

Police are asking the public to remain vigilant

Court told defendant persistently misused phone network to cause annoyance

A 70-YEAR-OLD man is due to be sentenced after admitting repeatedly making nuisance and abusive calls to emergency services in Carmarthenshire.

Dilwyn Williams, of Ger y Llan, Llanarthne, appeared before Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on January 12, where he pleaded guilty to multiple offences under the Communications Act 2003.

The court heard that between December 10 and December 19, 2025, Williams made persistent and harassing telephone calls using public communication networks, causing annoyance, inconvenience and distress. On one occasion, he also sent an obscene or menacing message to a police operator.

Magistrates were told that Williams had breached his bail by contacting emergency services again on January 11, although that charge was later withdrawn by prosecutors.

Williams was remanded on conditional bail ahead of sentencing, which is scheduled for January 21. His bail conditions include not contacting emergency services unless it is a genuine emergency and residing at his home address.

The case was heard at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court.
