RNID volunteers offering free hearing checks and hearing aid maintenance
A CHARITY supporting people who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus is running a series of local drop-in sessions to help residents access advice and practical support.
RNID has launched the sessions in Carmarthen, where trained volunteers will provide free hearing checks, hearing aid maintenance and information for people living with hearing loss.
The sessions will take place at Wesley Methodist Church on the third Friday of every month from 11am to 1pm, with upcoming dates scheduled for March 20, April 17, May 15 and June 19.
The project has been funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and is delivered by RNID volunteers, many of whom have personal experience of hearing loss.
During the drop-in sessions, visitors can receive free hearing aid servicing, including replacement batteries and tubing, as well as advice and support on living with hearing loss.
RNID also runs similar monthly support sessions at community venues across the Hywel Dda University Health Board area, including in Borth, Llandeilo, Tregaron and Llandysul.
Lynzie Fitzpatrick, RNID coordinator for Hywel Dda, said the service provides vital support for local communities.
“We are really pleased to run this much-needed service across Carmarthen and throughout the Hywel Dda area to support local people with hearing loss,” she said.
“We welcome anyone from the community to drop in to meet our friendly volunteers, receive free hearing checks, hearing aid maintenance and information.”
The charity is also appealing for more volunteers to help run the sessions, asking people who can spare around two hours a month to get involved.
Volunteers will receive full training, expenses and the opportunity to meet like-minded people while making a difference in their local community.
