Training to help adults better understand children’s sensory needs

Online course aims to equip teachers, carers and professionals with practical strategies to support children with sensory challenges

A SWANSEA-BASED charity is inviting teachers, professionals and carers to take part in a new online training course aimed at helping adults recognise and respond to children’s sensory needs.

Adenydd is offering a live Sensory Regulation Training course later this month, hosted by its chief executive, Gela Griffiths, a retired special school headteacher with extensive experience supporting children with additional needs.

The two-session course will take place online via Microsoft Teams on March 18 and March 25, running from 9.30am to 12.30pm each day.

Organisers say the six-hour programme has been designed to equip school staff, professionals and carers with practical strategies to better support children who may be experiencing sensory challenges, including those affected by trauma or additional learning needs.

Participants will learn how the sensory system can influence a child’s focus, learning and emotional regulation, and will explore practical activities that can be used in classrooms, homes or support services. The training will also introduce story-based engagement tools, including “The Wibbly Wobbly Ones”, aimed at helping children understand and express their feelings.

Places on the course cost £135 for teachers and professionals, which includes the live online sessions along with a posted handbook and supporting resources.

A limited number of subsidised places costing £25 are available for parents and students, also including course materials sent by post.

Organisers say the training is designed to deliver practical, high-impact skills within a short timeframe, enabling those who work with children to apply strategies immediately in their settings.

As a local charity, Adenydd says income from the course will go directly towards funding its community support services across the region.

Anyone interested in attending can register online via the Adenydd website.
