Llangennech man handed nine-month driving ban for failing to identify driver

A LLANGENNECH man has been fined over £1,000 and disqualified from driving after repeatedly failing to provide police with the identity of a driver linked to speeding offences.

Joseph Price, aged 30, of Maesyderwen, appeared before Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on Monday (July 28) to face multiple road traffic offences linked to incidents in late 2024.

The court heard that Price failed on two separate occasions—December 6 and December 26—to respond to formal requests from Dyfed-Powys Police to identify the driver of a vehicle, registration WO15 SUY, which had allegedly been involved in road traffic offences captured by safety cameras in Pontypridd.

In the first instance, Price was convicted under the Single Justice Procedure on June 6 and fined £440, ordered to pay £120 in costs, and received six penalty points on his driving licence.

In the second case, heard in his absence on July 28, magistrates found Price guilty and imposed a £660 fine, £650 in prosecution costs, and a nine-month driving disqualification. The court also noted six notional penalty points were applicable.

Price had also faced a speeding charge linked to a separate incident on November 24, 2024, in which he was alleged to have driven at 71mph in a goods vehicle on the A40 near Nantyci Showground, where the legal speed limit for that class of vehicle is 60mph. However, the charge was dismissed after no evidence was offered by the prosecution.

The magistrates presiding were Mrs N Dendle, Mr V Brickley, and Mrs H Meade. Prosecution was conducted by James Sprunks.
