Magical family activities, creative workshops and local art to brighten the holidays
FAMILIES are being invited to step into a magical world of myth, music and make-believe this Easter, as Oriel y Parc: National Park Discovery Centre unveils a packed programme of seasonal activities.
Running from Saturday, March 28 to Sunday, April 12, the line-up promises a mix of creative workshops, outdoor exploration and local art, offering something for all ages during the school holidays.
Taking centre stage is the Mythical Beasts’ Egg Quest, an interactive trail designed to spark young imaginations. Children will be encouraged to explore the woodland, courtyard and visitor centre in search of hidden eggs belonging to legendary creatures including dragons, griffins, owls and ravens. Along the way, participants must collect scattered musical notes, uncover an enchanted melody and play the tune to unlock their prize. The trail runs throughout the Easter break at a cost of £4 per child.
There is also plenty of hands-on fun, with two “Make & Take” sessions giving children the chance to get creative. On Wednesday, April 1, youngsters can craft their own pinecone bird feeder while learning about local birdlife and creating a bird spotter sheet to take home. The following week, on Wednesday, April 8, the focus turns to fantasy, with children invited to design and build their own mystical creature, complete with flapping wings. Both sessions run as drop-in activities between 11am and 3pm, priced at £4 per child.
Rachel Perkins, manager of Oriel y Parc: National Park Discovery Centre, said the programme is designed to bring families together.
She said: “Oriel y Parc is a wonderful place for families to spend time together during the holidays, whether that’s getting involved in an activity, exploring the grounds or simply dropping in while visiting St Davids. This Easter’s programme has a real sense of fun and discovery, with plenty to spark children’s imaginations.”
Alongside the family activities, visitors can browse handmade craft fairs hosted by Makers Bizarre on Tuesday, March 31 and Tuesday, April 7, running from 10.30am to 4.30pm. With free entry, the fairs will showcase a selection of local stallholders offering handmade crafts and produce.
Art enthusiasts are also catered for, with the St Davids and Solva Art Group staging a spring exhibition from Thursday, April 2 to Wednesday, April 8, open daily from 10am to 4pm. The exhibition will feature work by local amateur artists, with proceeds from sales supporting local charities.
