Prince Philip staff raising funds and awareness for patients across west Wales
HEALTHCARE workers from Prince Philip Hospital are going the extra mile – and climbing mountains – to raise funds for patients living with respiratory illnesses.
The dedicated team from the hospital’s Respiratory Department, part of Hywel Dda University Health Board, have been taking on a series of physical challenges to support their service and boost awareness of conditions such as asthma and COPD.
So far, staff have successfully climbed Pen y Fan and completed the Llanelli 10k. Their next goal includes tackling Corn Du, Cribyn and Fan y Big.
The team supports patients across west Wales who are living with a range of respiratory conditions, and say the fundraising will help enhance services and improve care.
Kelly Diana, a respiratory nurse, said the effort is about making a real difference.
She said: “We’re raising funds by doing various activities such as climbing Corn Du, Pen y Fan, Cribyn, Fan y Big and running to enhance our department’s resources – from additional equipment and patient education materials to innovative projects that help people breathe easier and live healthier lives.
“Every donation, big or small, directly contributes to improving patient care and supporting our hardworking team in continuing this essential work.
“Together, we can make a real difference for those living with respiratory illnesses across West Wales. Thank you for helping us help others – one breath at a time.”
The fundraiser is being supported by Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of the health board.
Claire Rumble, fundraising officer, praised the team’s efforts.
She said: “Thank you to everyone from the Respiratory Department who has taken on these fantastic challenges. We can’t wait to hear the outcome of each challenge.
“We are very grateful for every donation we receive, no matter how small or large. The charitable donations we receive don’t replace NHS funding – they are used to provide items and activities above and beyond core NHS expenditure.”
People wishing to support the team’s efforts can donate via their online fundraising page. Further information about Hywel Dda Health Charities and how to support local NHS patients and staff is available on the charity’s website.
