Fishing competition reels in £1,200 for children’s charity

Family fundraiser supports young patients across west Wales

A 48-HOUR fishing competition and raffle has raised £1,200 for a children’s charity supporting young patients with life-limiting conditions.

The event, held at White Springs Fishery, brought together anglers and supporters for a weekend of fundraising in aid of the Wish Fund.

Delivered by Hywel Dda Health Charities, the Wish Fund helps create lasting memories for children and young people with serious illnesses and their families.

The competition, which took place in October 2025, was organised by the Hill family, who run the fishery. Their son, Jaden, has been supported by children’s services for many years after being diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis.

In a gesture of thanks for the care he has received, the family arranged the fishing event, raffle and sponsorship collection, donating half of the proceeds to the Wish Fund and the remainder to a cystic fibrosis charity.

The Hill family are long-standing supporters of local NHS services and have now raised more than £10,000 through their fundraising efforts.

Katie Hancock, fundraising officer for Hywel Dda Health Charities, praised the family’s continued generosity.

She said: “Thank you to Bethan, Jaden and everyone at White Springs Fishery for your fantastic donation to the Wish Fund. We are so grateful for your continued support.

“Your generosity over the years has made a real difference to our services, and we truly appreciate it.

“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide across the three counties of Hywel Dda, and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”

Funds raised will go towards helping deliver special experiences and support for young patients and their families across west Wales.
