Pontyates man sentenced for drink-driving offence

Community order and driving ban imposed at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court

BROUGHT before magistrates in Llanelli, a Pontyates man has been sentenced after admitting a drink-driving offence committed earlier this year.

Robert Thomas, aged 60, of Heol Nazareth, Pontyates, appeared before Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (Feb 3) in connection with an alcohol-related driving offence.

The court heard that Thomas drove a motor vehicle while the level of alcohol in his breath exceeded the prescribed legal limit. Thomas provided a breath reading of 69 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, almost double the legal limit of 35. The offence was said to have taken place on January 13, 2026.

Thomas entered a guilty plea, which was accepted by the bench.

Magistrates imposed a community order, requiring Thomas to comply with supervision under the probation service for a period set by the court. He was also disqualified from driving for a specified period and ordered to pay prosecution costs to the Crown Prosecution Service, along with the statutory victim surcharge.

The court also ordered that Thomas must not drive again until the period of disqualification has expired, in accordance with the terms of the order imposed.
