New book offers alternative to ‘loud’ business culture as demand grows for sustainable success
A SWANSEA-BORN entrepreneur is challenging the high-pressure world of modern marketing after witnessing business owners burn out trying to keep up.
Melitta Campbell, originally from Swansea, has developed a more balanced approach to marketing after seeing talented entrepreneurs—particularly women—struggle with the demands of constant self-promotion.
Over the years, she observed capable business owners losing confidence and, in some cases, walking away from businesses they once loved, despite following what is often described as “best practice”.
In response, she created her own method—moving away from what she describes as “loud, hype-driven” marketing—and instead focusing on clarity, trust and authenticity.
Now known as “The Value Whisperer”, Ms Campbell has spent more than 30 years helping entrepreneurs better communicate their value. While she works with clients across the UK and Europe, she says her Welsh upbringing played a key role in shaping her philosophy.
“Brilliant women… were burning out or losing confidence because they believed marketing required them to be someone they weren’t,” she said.
To address this, she has released a new book, Value Whispering: The Smarter Way to Market Your Small Business, offering practical guidance for small business owners looking to grow in a more sustainable and authentic way.
The book aims to provide a complete roadmap—from identifying ideal clients and articulating value, to building long-term relationships—while also tackling issues often overlooked in traditional marketing advice, such as confidence, energy management and client boundaries.
At its core is Ms Campbell’s concept of the “Value Sweet Spot”, designed to help business owners clearly define what they do best and why it matters.
She argues that in an increasingly noisy digital world, shaped by algorithms and social media, quieter and more thoughtful approaches can actually offer a competitive advantage.
“People weren’t failing at marketing,” she said. “They were being asked to market in ways that didn’t suit who they were.”
The book has already attracted praise from industry figures including Matthew Pollard, author of The Introvert’s Edge, who said it demonstrates that business success does not require being “loud or pushy”.
Entrepreneurs Andrew and Pete also endorsed the work, describing it as a guide for those wanting to grow without “cringe or burnout”.
The launch is supported by workshops, masterclasses and a wider programme built around the “Value Whispering” concept.
Copies are being made available across the UK through support from the Books Council of Wales.
Ms Campbell added: “You don’t have to be the loudest to have the biggest impact. Your whisper is enough.”
