Swansea & Gower Green Party candidate announced

THE SWANSEA and Gower Green Party are thrilled to announce that our lead list candidate for the 2026 Senedd elections for Gwyr Abertawe will be Chris Evans, Councillor for Mayals ward on  the City and County of Swansea Council.

Gwyr Abertawe is the Senedd constituency that covers both the Gower and Swansea West constituencies for General Elections.

Chris has a strong track record of working hard for residents, and would continue to do so in the Senedd if elected. The people of Wales are our priority, not party donors, private healthcare companies, arms dealers, and the oil and gas companies that are funding the Tories, Labour and Reform.

Chris is a great example of Green politicians getting things done. It was Chris who proposed the first ever motion to devolve the Crown Estate to Wales which was passed unanimously by Swansea Council, since then, every single local authority in Wales has followed suit, recognising that it makes sense to keep the money generated here in local communities to help Wales thrive. Elected Greens are trailblazers that make a difference.

Chris said “I’d like to say a huge thank you to my fellow Greens for electing me as our lead list candidate for Gwyr Abertawe. It is a huge honour for me to hopefully get more Greens in the Senedd.

“Many people think that the Greens are only concerned about the environment, but I know that environmental justice and social justice must be achieved together or neither will last.

“As a working class person that grew up in Swansea in the 70s and 80s, I know how inequality then damaged the city and all of Wales.

“I remember the feeling of uncertainty as a small boy when my father was made redundant from the Felindre tin plate works, not knowing what the future held for us as a family.

“I understand how inequality then led to a rise in hate, and how it is also now fuelling the hate and anger we see online and on our streets, and how certain parties are pushing minorities as scapegoats, whether it be because they are from another ethnic background, another sexual orientation or are differently abled.

“Blaming those worse off than us will not fix this country, what will fix it is reducing inequality and creating a better greener future for us all.

“If elected, my aim is to bring back hope, to be a light in the darkness. A better future is possible, but we need to choose it at the ballot box next year.

“Together we can make a difference, together we can build a better Wales. Join me and the other Green candidates and together let’s Bring Back Hope and bring some light Into these dark times by voting Green for the Senedd.”
