Teenager handed suspended sentence after dangerous driving offences

Llanelli court hears of ‘serious pattern of offending’

A 19-YEAR-OLD man has been handed a suspended prison sentence following a string of driving offences in Llanelli and a breach of a restraining order.

Leon Cannon, of Cae Gar, Llanelli, appeared before Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on January 8, where he admitted a number of offences including dangerous driving, driving without a licence or insurance, and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

The court heard that the offences took place on November 15, 2025, when Cannon drove a silver Vauxhall Corsa dangerously along the A484 in Llanelli. It was found that he was not in possession of a valid driving licence or insurance and later refused to provide a blood sample for testing.

Cannon was also sentenced for breaching a restraining order imposed by the Youth Court in 2024, after he entered a prohibited area of Llanelli on October 18.

Passing sentence, District Judge M Layton imposed a total of 36 weeks in custody, suspended for two years, describing Cannon’s actions as “blatant breaches and a serious pattern of offending”.

As part of the sentence, Cannon was ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work and 20 days of rehabilitation activity within 12 months. He was also disqualified from driving for three years and must pass an extended retest before being allowed back on the road.

Cannon was further ordered to pay £85 in court costs.
