Cilgerran man raises funds as a thank you for the care he received following heart surgery.
A RETIRED headmaster has raised £500 for the Speech and Language Therapy service at Glangwili Hospital after receiving treatment from the team.
Emyr Phillips, from Cilgerran, raised the money during celebrations for his wife Bethan’s 70th birthday.
Emyr, who worked as a headmaster for 32 years, decided to raise funds for the service as a way of thanking staff for the care he received.
He said: “The Speech and Language Therapists in Glangwili Hospital did their best to improve my throat after suffering from ‘Tapis Syndrome’ following surgical treatment on my heart.”
Paige Denyer, fundraising support officer, thanked Emyr for his efforts.
She said: “Massive thank you to Emyr for taking the time to fundraise for the Speech and Language Therapy Team. Your donation is greatly appreciated.
“The generous charitable donations we receive don’t replace NHS funding. Instead, they are used to provide items and activities above and beyond core NHS expenditure, such as more welcoming surroundings for patients, families and staff, and state-of-the-art equipment.”
