Aberystwyth motorist disqualified after cannabis level exceeded legal limit
A 47-YEAR-OLD man has been disqualified from driving after appearing before Aberystwyth Magistrates’ Court on a drug-driving charge.
Halit Ayik, of Maes Celyn, Primrose Hill, Llanbadarn Fawr, Aberystwyth, appeared before magistrates on Wednesday (Feb 4) for sentencing in relation to an offence committed on September 24, 2025.
The court heard that Ayik drove a Volkswagen Polo on Morlan Centre, Queens Road, Aberystwyth, when the proportion of a controlled drug in his blood exceeded the legal limit. Tests showed that the level of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in his blood was 10 micrograms per litre, above the prescribed limit.
Magistrates imposed an obligatory driving disqualification for 12 months. Ayik was also fined £250, with the court noting that a guilty plea had been taken into account.
He was ordered to pay £85 in prosecution costs and a £100 surcharge.
