Sam Rowlands MS supports Repair Café pop up event in Flint

SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is calling for volunteers to help fix household items in Flint.

Organisers of The Repair Café at Flint Town Hall are looking for volunteer fixers to help at its monthly pop-up event.

Mr Rowlands, a keen supporter of encouraging recycling said: “I am always happy to promote and support Repair Cafés which I think are a fantastic idea and very worthwhile initiatives. It is great to see this is a regularly held event in the town.

“I am sure there will be people in Flint who regularly fix household items in their own home and it would be great if they had a bit of spare time on their hands to help in the café.

“It is really important that we continue to reduce recycling waste and Repair Cafés offer everyone the opportunity to do their bit to help this cause.”

The Repair Café is a monthly pop-up event where volunteers fix household items for free in order to reduce waste, teach skills and bring the community together. They are now seeking Volunteer Fixers who can spare two hours once a month.

You don’t need to be a professional fixer to get involved; all you need is to be confident, competent and happy to give your time to make a positive difference to the environment, and to your local community.

Typical household item repairs include:

  • Electrical items: e.g.toasters, kettles, vacuum cleaners
  • Clothing: e.g.jeans, bags, shirts (sewing/textiles)
  • IT: e.g. PCs, laptops
  • General: e.g.toys, ornaments, small furniture, woodwork
  • Bikes: e.g.basic bike maintenance

The Repair Café is held on the third Wednesday of the month from 10-12 noon at Flint Town Hall. It will not be held in August but the next one will be on September 24.

Also on a Wednesday at the Town Hall, there is a Community Cafe, so you can enjoy a free cuppa, biscuits and a chat whilst your items are being repaired.
